Angéline's Past and Present

Angéline's was built in 1869 by Henry and Angeline (née Noxon) Hubbs. Angeline was the daughter of Samual Noxon, a prominent Quaker instrumental in establishing Quaker halls throughout the County. As part of Angeline's dowry, 100 acres of her father's land was given to her husband Henry Hubbs to build their Victorian home.

From 1988-89 this once-beautiful home was gracefully restored to its original elegance by Monika and Willi Fida and launched as Angéline's restaurant and inn, the first establishment of its kind in the County. Willi Fida was renowned for his influence and inspiration in the growth of culinary arts in the County. His passion for his profession and his commitment to fine dining has made a lasting mark on this area; his legacy is honored each year with the Willi Fida Culinary Bursary awarded to deserving culinary students from the County.

Since June 2007, Angéline's has been in the hands of Alexandre and Melanie Fida, with Monika's guidance and the support of a faithful and hard-working team of dedicated professionals. This year Angéline's restaurant evolved into The Hubb cocktail bar and lounge and maintains its ever popular rooms and suites for discriminating travellers. May 2012 will be their 24th anniversary.

The family's continuing support of local artists is reflected in the eclectic selections of original works which embellish the café and bar. They have ranged from vibrant exhibitions of abstract paintings by Rita Thivierge and Tammy Love to last exhibition of portraits of local food producers by  Mile Murtanovski.

Sconces and several chandeliers are by ceramist Harlan House.
